Bilateral Relations

  • Brunei Darussalam and Singapore established diplomatic relations in January 1984.
  • The two countries cooperate extensively in defence, finance, trade and investment, tourism, health and education, and share long-standing arrangements such as the Currency Interchangeability Agreement.

  • 4 June 2014: MOU between Institute Technology Brunei (ITB) and Singapore Management University on academic and research collaborations between both universities.
  • 13 May 2014: MOU between Brunei's Ministry of Health and Singapore's Academy of Medicine involving the training of Bruneian Medical Specialists in Singapore.
  • 6 May 2014: MOU on Combating Transnational Crime and Developing Police Cooperation

  • UBD signed 4 MOUs with Singapore Institutions:
    1. April 2013: MOU with National University Singapore (NUS) – Research Collaboration in Renewable Energy.

    3. December 2013: MOU with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) – Research Collaboration in Renewable Energy.

  • 29 May 2013: MOU on a Joint Botanical Survey
  • 28 May 2013: MOU on Health Cooperation was renewed.
  • 27 May 2013: Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) signed an MOU with Singapore-based non-governmental organisation, Mercy Relief. The MoU includes an arrangement to enable UBD students to travel with Mercy Relief teams in undertaking humanitarian works in the region.
