Bilateral Relations

  • Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia established diplomatic relations in January 1984.
  • Both sides enjoy excellent cooperation in a wide number of areas, including trade and investment, defence, education and health.
  • The Annual Leaders Consultations have been conducted since 1997. The 17th Annual Leaders Consultations was held on 8 December 2013 in Brunei Darussalam.

8 – 13 Nov 2013

Official Visit of His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah.

13 – 14 April 2014

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended the 14th Defence Services Asia Exhibition (DSA) in Kuala Lumpur.

29 May 2014 His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended the Istiadat Penghormatan Terakhir Al-Marhum Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah, Sultan Perak Darul Ridzuan.
18 Aug 2014 YB Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Dr Ustaz Hj Awg Abdul Aziz Juned, State Mufti delivered a talk on the Syariah Penal Code Order 2013, under the invitation of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

19 - 22 May 2014 Working Visit of Yang Bhg Dato' Seri Utama Diraja Sahibus Samahah Dato' Setia Hj Mohd Tamyes bin Abdul Wahid, Mufti of Selangor.
26 June 2014 Visit of Yang Bhg Orang Kaya-Kaya Seri Agar Diraja Tan Sri Dato' Seri Diraja Haji Ramli bin Ngah Talib, Orang Besar Lapan Perak Darul Ridzuan.

Agreements/ MOUs signed

  • 23 January 2014: MOU between Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS)
  • 8 December 2013: During the 17th Annual Leaders Consultations two Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) were signed:
  1. MOU between PB Services Sdn Bhd (a subsidiary of PetroleumBRUNEI) and Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering ("MMHE") to enter into a possible joint venture in Brunei Darussalam to provide fabrication services in the oil and gas industry.
  2. MOU on Cooperation in the Development of Co-operative Sector.
  • 29 October 2013: MOU between AMBD and Securities Commission Malaysia.
  • 11 September 2013: MOU between Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College (KUPUSB) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).
  • 3 April 2013: MOU between Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) and Bank Negara Malaysia to establish a collaborative framework towards enhancing mutual cooperation in the development of the financial services sector.
  • 26 February 2013: MOU between Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College (KUPUSB) and Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Terengganu
