Germany

THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY

Relations between the two countries are warm and friendly. Diplomatic relations were established on 1 May 1984. The setting up of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bandar Seri Begawan in 1985 and the establishment of the Brunei Darussalam’s Embassy in Bonn in 1991 (moved to Berlin in 1999) have further strengthened this.

Brunei Darussalam’s current ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany is His Excellency PDIBG DP Hj Mohammad Yusof Abu Bakar. The German Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam is His Excellency Dr. Thomas Bruns.

There have been several exchanges of visits between both countries including the visits of His Majesty the Sultan (1998 and 2002) and Chancellor Helmut Kohl (1997).

Bilateral relations between the two countries continued to be enhanced through bilateral cooperation in the field of health, education and trade.
