Bilateral Relations


  • Brunei Darussalam and the People's Republic of China established diplomatic relations on 30 September 1991.
  • Brunei Darussalam and the People's Republic of China formed a Strategic Cooperative Relationship on 5 April 2013.
  • Brunei Darussalam and the People's Republic of China established Sister City relations between Bandar Seri Begawan and Nanjing on 21 November 2011.
  • Both countries cooperate extensively in trade and investment, energy, agriculture, defence, ICT, culture, air services, tourism, health, education and people to people exchanges and share long-standing arrangements such as the Bilateral Consultative Meeting (BCM) at the Senior Officials Level and the Consultation Meeting on Trade, Investment and Economic Cooperation (COMTIEC).
  • RBA currently operates daily flights to Hong Kong and 3 flights a week to Shanghai. In 2013, Brunei received 30,481 Chinese visitors.
